On 25 June 2025, the President of the Republic of Burundi officially inaugurated the Jiji hydropower plant in Bururi Province. This large-scale infrastructure is a key step toward the country’s energy self-sufficiency and a magnet for sustainable investment.

We’re proud to announce that Vortex Hydra supplied the plant’s hydromechanical equipment, enhancing the safety, reliability and maintainability of the hydraulic works serving the powerhouse.

Together with the similar plant of Mulembwe (to be completed in the coming months), the Jiji–Mulembwe complex will provide 49.5 MW of installed capacity and an estimated 235 GWh of clean energy per year. The energy generated will improve access to electricity and boost productivity in strategic sectors such as health, education, agribusiness and ICT, with direct benefits for 15,000 households, 7,000 businesses and 1,700 industrial facilities.

Hydromechanical equipment supply for the plant’s hydraulic structures, engineered for tight sealing, safe operation and easy maintenance over the asset’s lifetime.

Quality and reliability: materials and processes in line with leading international standards;

Commissioning support: technical assistance through start-up and know-how transfer to local teams.
