Ball Valves

Home / Products / Custom made valves / Ball Valves

Similar to Spherical Valves, the Ball Valves are often used in power plants and dams where high pressures are involved. The most common application is turbine protection, where the valve acts as a safety and maintenance device for the Turbine.
The main design characteristic of the Ball Valve is the rotor, which is completely manufactured from forged steel so enabling this valve to be employed in applications where small diameters and high water pressure heads are involved.
The Ball Valves are manufactured with the combination of steel plates and forged components. Vortex Hydra, as part of their design criteria, normally recommends the grade of steel to be used, but any special request from the customer can be analysed and agreed on.

The operational system of the Ball Valves can consist of the following:
• Cylinder with counter weight (the cylinder can be actuated by either hydraulics or high pressure water).
• Electric motorised gearbox
• Special operational system defined and agreed with the customer

A typical range of applications are:
• Diameter up to DN1000
• Pressure up to PN160

Sealing System: different from that of spherical valves – the sealing system on ball valves consists of a rubber seal seated against a metallic spring so eliminating the need for a dedicated hydraulic circuit operation.
All phases of the engineering design and fabrication through to final testing are undertaken by Vortex Hydra in compliance with UNI EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Vortex Hydra design and manufacture Ball Valves having a nominal diameter up to 600 mm diameter.
