CROSS RIVER: The Vortex Hydra turnkey solution for main electro-mechanical equipment.

In 2013 Vortex Hydra signed a contract to undertake the design and manufacture of the electro-mechanical equipment required on a cross river regulator in Iraq. The cross regulator serves three purposes which are navigation, irrigation and the production of electrical power. The water management for the regulator is achieved by the construction of the three different structures:

  • #1 Barrage with #7 radial gates (12,0 w x 6,5h m) + upstream-downstream stop logs with own handling equipment;

  • #1 Navigation lock (20,0 w x 200,0 m long), with #2 miter gates + upstream-downstream stop logs with own handling equipment, #4 culvert gates each with pertinent stop logs (up and downstream);

  • #2 feeding canals, with #2 fixed wheel gates and pertinent stop logs to control the water feeds used for irrigation;

  • #1 fish ladder, with auxiliary water supply.

With the project formal approvals finalised in June 2014 the required equipment is currently in the process of being manufactured. The delivery of the equipment is scheduled to be completed in four phases to suit the site’s order of construction. The equipment has been designed so that it can be dissembled into different components that will enable it to be delivered to site in containers and then reassembled on site with relative ease. In total 50 containers will be required to deliver approximately 1,100 tons of steel structures. In addition Vortex Hydra have also provided the specifications for complete automation, lifting equipment and will also assist the customer in erection and commissioning of the equipment.
