SIMPLE PROVEN EQUIPMENT IS THE SOLUTION TO EFFICIENT RIVER SPILLWAY OPERATION

In the year 2000 ENEL of Milan awarded Vortex Hydra a contract for the supply and commissioning of heavy duty equipment for the then new spillway that was being constructed on the Brembo River. The new structure that is both fully automated and remotely controlled was to replace the aged historical “Poiree” barrage that had been originally constructed with wooden poles and used manually operated gate.

The following items of equipment were included in the Vortex supply:

- 4no. Flap gates (dim. 12 x 2.2 m/each.) necessary replace the wooden barrage.

- 1no. Radial gate to replace the 2no. existing discharge sluice gates.

- 1no. Fixed wheel gate located at the inlet of the derivation channel.

- Various stop log systems.

- Hydraulic power units and electrical panels.

- Various monitoring instruments such as a water level transducer with the position of the discharge and gates being coordinated to suit the general local and remote control systems required for the management of the barrage.

The above photograph shows a Vortex Engineer working on site. The photograph below shows both a panoramic view of the barrage form downstream together with the flap gates.

WITH 15 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL OPERATION OF THE NEW BARRAGE HAVING NOW ELAPSED THE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS OFFERED BY VORTEX HAVE WITHOUT DOUBT PROVEN TO BE THE CORRECT SOLUTIONS PARTICULARLY WITH REGARD TO SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE THAT WAS NEEDED.

The supply of new renewable energies or the upgrading of existing obsolete existing plants can be successfully achieved by adopting a similar approach to that described above: SIMPLE and PROVEN.
