BUTTERFLY VALVE AND SPHERICAL VALVES IN CHILE

La Higuera Power plant is located in the Tinguiririca River, in the VI Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region, approximately 100 km from the South of Santiago.

Vortex Hydra signed the contract in April 2007, for the supply of the 3 main valves foreseen in the La Higuera Power plant.

One Butterfly Valve DN 3400 mm PN10, positioned upstream to the penstock and connected to it by means of a dismantling joint. This Butterfly Valve is used as a protection element in case of emergency and also drains the penstock for maintenance and inspection. Its structure is of biplane type, completely made of welded steel for both body and disc, while its functionality is realized by means of two hydraulic cylinders and counterweights for the normal and emergency maneuvers.

Two Spherical Valves DN 1700 mm PN 46 (see the picture on the left during the workshop test) are installed upstream the spiral case of the two turbines, as a protection element in case of emergency or maintenance. The structure of these valves is completely in welded steel, with two mobile rings seals in stainless steel operated by a dedicated driving circuit.

Both valves are actuated by two hydraulic cylinders and counterweights for the normal and emergency maneuvers. The Butterfly Valve and the two Spherical Valves were delivered in October 2009, fully assembled after the completion of the workshop test. Vortex Hydra has made the design, construction, delivery and the local build up assistance.

BUTTERFLY VALVES IN BRAZIL

The HPP Areia Branca is located in the Minas Gerais State, in Brazil, approximately 20 km from Ipanema City. In this Power plant two Butterfly Valves DN 2700 mm PN 7 were foreseen. These two Butterfly Valves are upstream flange connected to the penstock and downstream are joint to the spiral case of the turbine. The structure of these two Butterfly Valves of biplane type, is completely made of welded steel for both body and disc, while the functionality of them is realized by means of two hydraulic cylinders and counterweights for the normal and emergency maneuvers. Vortex Hydra signed the contract for design, construction and transportation in April 2007 and delivered the two Butterfly Valves in August 2008, after the completion of the workshop tests (see the picture on the right).
